Caleb Moore X Games death shocks snowmachine world

Snowmachine racers and enthusiasts across the country are mourning the loss of X Games champion racer Caleb Moore, who died as a result of injuries he suffered when competing in the Winter X Games in Aspen on Jan. 24. He was attempting to do a back flip in the freestyle event when his skis hit the landing early and sent Moore hurtling to the ground, his machine rolling on top of him. The X Games Tignes Freestyle event scheduled for March in France was canceled following the 25-year-old Texas racer’s death. According to a USA Today report, A Give Forward fund created to cover Moore’s medical bills had raised more than $54,000 as of mid-February. Rockstar Energy Drinks, one of Moore’s sponsors, and the Athlete Recovery Fund have worked to cover funeral and medical costs, as well.

Polaris racers score at ISOC races in South Dakota

Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports) capped off a great weekend of ISOC snocross racing in Deadwood, S.D., by winning the Pro Open final on Feb. 2, while fellow Polaris racer Kody Kamm (Hentges Racing) finished second and joined Martin on the podium. Polaris racer Jake Scott (Team LaVallee) won both Pro Lite finals at Deadwood and took over as the class points leader. Racers dedicated the event to Caleb Moore, a Polaris freestyle star who died Jan. 31 as the result of injuries sustained while competing at the recent X Games.

“I want to dedicate this win to Caleb Moore,” Martin said in a Polaris press release. “We miss you but I know you’ve got your eyes on us and are keeping us safe.”

In Pro-Am Women, Polaris racer Jennifer Pare (Leighton Motorsports) finished second, Jennifer Martel was fourth, Tabitha Bode (Team BSR) was fifth and Jessica Martel was sixth. After Deadwood, Pare was the Pro-Am Women points leader, while Bode was fourth, Martel was sixth, Rachelle Fountain (Fountain Racing) was eighth and Martel was 10th.
