Performance Yamaha has a new owner. Former competitor Anchorage Yamaha acquired the Wasilla shop on Aug. 8 in an effort to expand into the Mat-Su market, said Andrew Smith, partner-owner of Anchorage Yamaha.

“We’ve been working on it for a while,” Smith said. “Jay (Marshall, previous Performance Yamaha owner) was looking to retire and move Outside. It took a while, then it kind of dissolved, then we were waiting on Yamaha, then it came back up again. We had thought the deal fell apart. But I think Yamaha finally realized they were going to lose a dealer, so we came in and took advantage of a good deal. Hopefully we can take that dealership and try and make it better, and make sure we service their customers as they should.”

Smith said 15-year Anchorage Yamaha employee Stacey Miller manages the Wasilla location. The store is also slated next year for a remodel and upgrades that will bring it up to Anchorage Yamaha standards, he said.

“It will still remain in the same place,” Smith said of the Parks Highway shop. “We want to invite the old customers to come in and meet us. We are not trying to change the look and how they did things. It will be the same store, but with new management that will keep things fresh and make things better.”
